ZIEHL-ABEGG Kft. and Würth Industry – Three Decades of Joint Development
Founded in 1910, ZIEHL-ABEGG SE is one of the leading global companies in the field of ventilation, control, and drive technology. In the 1950s, ZIEHL-ABEGG SE laid the foundations of modern fan drives: the external rotor motors, still considered among the most advanced worldwide today. Another business unit produces electric motors that power, for example, elevators or medical applications (such as CT scanners).
The high-tech company demonstrates impressive innovation capabilities. It employs 5,300 people globally across 17 production plants, 30 companies, and 114 sales locations. In the southern German plants, approximately 2,800 people work. The company sells around 30,000 products in more than 100 countries.
The Hungarian subsidiary, ZIEHL-ABEGG Motor- and Fan Manufacturing Ltd., was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Marcali. The company, which originally started with 5–10 employees, now employs around 800 people.
The Beginnings
The cooperation between ZIEHL-ABEGG Kft. and Würth Hungary began in 1995. In the first phase, we supported the supply of maintenance materials. This included chemical products, raw materials required for machining, and occupational safety products.
In 2015, the collaboration reached a new level: two vending machines were installed, primarily providing personal protective equipment (e.g., protective gloves), welding accessories, and abrasive tools (e.g., Würth grinding discs). In the same year, a consignment warehouse was also established, storing both direct and indirect materials. This solution enabled quick access and continuous availability.
New Horizons – Supplying Direct Materials
A breakthrough came in 2019–2020, when the supply of direct materials began in Hungary. We provided special Precot 85 set screws: these screws come with factory-applied adhesive that cures in an oxygen-free environment once screwed into place. This solution made production processes more efficient and safer.
Modernization and Digitalization
In February 2024, the cooperation reached another milestone: we installed more modern ORSY®mat HX helix based and RT rotation based vending machines, now supported by a cloud-based IoT system. This enables real-time reporting of inventory and consumption statistics, provides authorization management, and ensures increased safety during occupational safety inspections.
The partnership between Würth Industry and ZIEHL-ABEGG Kft. in Hungary has lasted for more than three decades and continues to show constant development. In the future, further vending machines are expected to be installed, making production supply even more efficient while strengthening the cooperation.
Additionally, it is interesting that both Hungarian subsidiaries have parent company headquarters located in Künzelsau. The history, development, and future of the two companies remain closely intertwined in both Germany and Hungary.
